Generation Arts

Generation Arts exists to engage older people across West Lothian in non-competitive, expressive and creative activities that promote independence, confidence and good mental health. The initiative reaches hundreds of people through its range of activities which include generation arts clubs, taster sessions, tea dances and intergenerational projects.

Generation Arts delivers a regular programme of creative movement, poetry, visual arts and music in nine clubs based in local communities across West Lothian, where older people meet. It brings schools together with their local generation arts club for intensive intergenerational projects. To date these have included photography, creative movement and reminiscence projects.

The project provides afternoon music performances and tea dances in the local theatre as well as taster sessions for potential new clubs and participants. The partners in Generation Arts are West Lothian Council Arts Services, West Lothian Council Social Policy, Community Resource (Housing with Care Developments), West Lothian 50+ Network, Ageing Well, Dedridge Good Neighbourhood Network, Acredale House Day Centre. All are involved, individually, with older people and recognise that by working together they can have a much more holistic beneficial effect that feeds into healthier happier communities.
